my blog: 2011 Playboy Sex Survey - May 26/2011
Masturbation: The categories "at least once a day"and "a few times a week" have gone up while the other less frequent categories have remained pretty much the same. Once again, we have a clear indication and that is more solo sex.
  • once a day: 19.5% (Male 23%, Female 15%)
    1983: 14% (Male 19%, Female 9%)
  • few times a week: 40.5% (Male 44%, Female 37%)
    1983: 25% (Male 31%, Female 19%)
  • once a week: 13% (Male 12%, Female 14%)
    1983: 13% (Male 14%, Female 12%)
  • once or twice a month: 12% (Male 10%, Female 14%)
    1983: 15.5% (Male 13%, Female 18%)
  • less than once a month: 11.5% (Male 8%, Female 15%)
    1983: 13% (Male 10%, Female 16%)
Then again, solo sex doesn't necessarily have to be solo. 55% of those surveyed have watched each other masturbate (Male:53%, Female:64%).

my blog: Canadian Sex Survey: The True North strong and (very) free - Feb 6/2013
We come to the section on self-love. When you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with. 13% go solo daily, 24% a few times per week, 24% a few times per month, and 19% once a month or less. 13% say they never go solo. Woody Allen: "Don't knock masturbation. It's sex with someone you love."

Solo broken down by sex shows that men are more likely to go it alone. 21% of men and 5% of women have a daily routine. 33% of men and 16% of women do it a few times per week and 23% of men and 24% of women a few times per month. 10% of men and 29% of women are once a month or less and 9% of men and 17% of women say, "Never!"

my blog: May is National Masturbation Month - Apr 30/2013
In 1994, [Joycelyn Elders, U.S. Surgeon General] was invited to speak at a United Nations conference on AIDS. She was asked whether it would be appropriate to promote masturbation as a means of preventing young people from engaging in riskier forms of sexual activity, and she replied, "I think that it is part of human sexuality, and perhaps it should be taught." This remark caused great controversy and resulted in Elders losing the support of the White House. ... Elders was fired by President Clinton as a result of the controversy in December 1994.

In 1995, California sex advocate Dr. Carol Queen with the assistance of Good Vibrations, held the first National Masturbation Day on May 7 while declaring May masturbation month. "Surveys indicate that 90 per cent of North American men and 65 per cent of women masturbate yet masturbation continues to be maligned in our culture, censored from our education and scorned as the sexual expression of those who can't get a date."

How To Tips for Mutual Masturbation by Cory Silverberg
Mutual masturbation may sound like an oxymoron. After all, masturbation is supposed to be something you do by yourself, and if someone else is in the room, isn’t that just called having sex? It’s true, but masturbation is also form of sex, and sharing masturbation with a partner, can be a wonderful way of sharing intimacy, and a great way to share sexual secrets.

Masturbation may increase fertility during intercourse. A 2009 Australian study found daily ejaculation to be an important factor in sperm health and motility. ... Female masturbation alters conditions in the vagina, cervix and uterus, in ways that can alter the chances of conception from intercourse, depending on the timing of the masturbation. A woman's orgasm between one minute before and 45 minutes after insemination favors the chances of that sperm reaching her egg. ... Female masturbation can also provide protection against cervical infections by increasing the acidity of the cervical mucus and by moving debris out of the cervix. ... In males, masturbation flushes out old sperm with low motility from the male's genital tract. The next ejaculate then contains more fresh sperm, which have higher chances of achieving conception during intercourse.
